HENLEY BEACH ADDITION TO 1900’S VILLA
Henley Beach SA
The project is an addition to a 1900’s villa. The clients’ brief was to provide an addition with a new kitchen and meals area that took full advantage of the deep block and northern aspect to the rear of the house. The existing internal kitchen was converted to a generous double bathroom.
The new addition included a deck with a partial Danpalon roof cover for outdoor entertaining, to the north and a timber screened landing to the west.
The palette of materials includes:
Bagged brickwork walls with a Murawash finish
Cypress pine strip flooring
Western red Cedar door and window frames & cladding with a clear finish
Australian hardwood pergola and deck
The building includes the following sustainable design elements:
Window placement to facilitate cross ventilation and breeze paths from local sea breezes
Vertical and horizontal sun shading that act as privacy screens
Roof forms to maximise the existing PV solar collection
Rainwater capture and reuse for whole of house
Selection of sustainable and robust building materials
